Thekkady : The paradise concealed within the enigmatic tea gardens. The vicinity of Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary with its chaste, green and exciting blue mountains makes it a real delightful experience. Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary is actually bounded by the Periyar Lake.

 After lunch, get ready for the wild life exploration. Get into a cruise, which takes you up close to the wild side of nature. You can get a chance to sight on tigers, elephants, leopards, gaur, and deer etc, which reside in the Tiger reserve. Periyar Tiger Reserve, located in the southern segment of the Western Ghats at an altitude of 2900- 6000 ft, is the largest sanctuary in Kerala which is one of the 18 hotspots in the world recognized for their bio-diversity. 

You can have the unique experience of viewing wildlife at close quarters from the safety of a boat on the lake.  The greatest attraction of Periyar, however are the herds of wild elephants that come down to the play in the lake.

These islands are hedged by mud walls, a haven for migratory birds, with paddy fields inundated with water through the year. These islands are special as they lie below the sea level and are found only here… Cruise along slowly in these intricate networks of canals (Kayals) passing through villages and paddy fields.

Large Kettuvalloms (traditional country crafts over 60ft. in length) have been renewed into luxury houseboats for these cruises The Vallam Kali (the Snake Boat Race) held every year in August is a major attraction. 12km from Kottayam, this unique backwater destination situated on the banks of the Vembanad lake is considered the gateway to the backwaters of Kuttanad.
